Police seek info on King Street fatality

Victoria Police are seeking information from the public regarding a fatal collision in the Melbourne CBD on Tuesday night.

Police say it appears that a rider and a truck collided at the intersection of King and La Trobe Streets near the Flagstaff Gardens at about 5:10pm.

La Trobe Street is a busy bike route and there may have been riders in the vicinity at the time of the incident who may have information that could help with the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, with dashcam footage or further information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

This fatal collision has occurred during Road Safety Week, an annual initiative to eliminate deaths on our roads. All riders deserve to come home safe.

The incident heightens the need for bike facilities that better protect riders.

The La Trobe-King Street intersection was earmarked by Bicycle Network as an area of concern as part of the 'Four Photos' campaign, where we track upgrades to key bike corridors through time. Unfortunately, there have been no improvements to this intersection since 2019.

Bicycle Network would like to express our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the victim.
