Changes to Nepean Highway at Carrum

Due to construction work by the Level Crossings Removal Authority at Carrum there will be a series of changes to the road alignment in the coming month.

This week there will be asphalting and line marking works on the Nepean Hwy between Eel Race Rd and Stephens St in preparation for lane configuration changes, parking changes and a long term speed reduction.

Riders should be alert to the changes as motorists may take time to adjust.

After assessing the plans, we expect the altered conditions, which will be in place well into next year, will be suitable for roadies who regularly ride the route as long as parking restrictions are properly managed.

Changed traffic arrangements include:

The parking lane along the western kerb line (beach side) will be remove and parking restrictions will apply between 06:30am and 09:30am Monday – Friday The parking bays along the eastern kerb line (rail side) will be closed.

  • Asphalt rectification works will be undertaken
  • Current carriageways will be reconfigured to be adjacent to the kerb line
  • Lane widths will be reduced to 3m
  • A long term speed reduction from 60 to 40km/h will be in place 24x7
  • An installation of temporary barriers will be setup along the eastern side of the road to delineate the construction site of the new Carrum Station

Changes to the traffic and parking conditions will begin this week with disruptive works being undertaken overnight to minimize those disruptions.

Line marking changes are scheduled to take place overnight on Wednesday 19 June and Thursday 20 June.

Barrier installation is scheduled to take place on Friday 21, and Saturday 22 June.

As well, the Station Street bridge over the Patterson River will be closed for a week from this Thursday, 20 June.

A crane will be lifting segments onto the new navigation beacon installation at the southern end of the Patterson River crossing on Station St.

Station Street will be closed from McLeod Rd to Mascot Ave, although local traffic will still be able to access businesses and houses up to the immediate work area.

The closure is from Thursday 20 June up to and including Wednesday 26 June from 7pm to 7am.

The detour will be via Nepean Hwy.
