Ride and volunteer

Experience the event from the saddle.

Most volunteers don't ride at all on the RACV Great Vic, but there are some volunteer roles which allow you to experience the event from the saddle.

A riding volunteer is a rider – you'll need to purchase an event entry through the RACV Great Vic shop and also sign up as a riding volunteer.

How does it work?

Come event time, you'll be heading out each day and enjoying the on-road experience just like any other rider. Once you get into camp you'll be volunteering for approximately four hours each day. In return for this volunteering, Riding Volunteers are eligible to receive up to a 30% refund on their entry price. Riding volunteer positions are only available for the 9 day ride option and it's a great way to enjoy the ride, save some money, and meet some amazing people along the way!

Riding volunteers are eligible for a volunteer tent and volunteer transport, however if they do not fulfil their volunteer duties these will be charged at the end of the ride.

Available positions

The teams that accepted riding volunteers in 2016 are below, please click the team name to see what your role could be and for an example of the shift times you'll be needed. This may change in 2017 and will be updated before applications open up.

You must sign up to be a riding volunteer before the event, and you can do this through the volunteer portal. Limited riding volunteer positions are available so get in quick!

Further information

If you are bringing a bike box along to the event the same service is available as for normal riders. A local Rotary Club will be collecting, storing and then returning bike boxes at the end of the ride. This service is provided via a donation to the local Club and is a cost we don't cover for volunteers.

Full time volunteers who ride the route

Riding route marshals and WARBYs are full-time volunteers who also ride the route. This is different from 'riding volunteers' as they are not required to buy a ticket. These roles are highly sought-after and normally fill up well before the ride. Check out more information under the 'roles available' tab if you think this might be for you.
