Date set for Oxford Street cycleway build

Work will begin on the highly anticipated Oxford Street cycleway in mid-2023, a few months after Sydney’s WorldPride festival.

The cycleway project, connecting Taylor Square to Paddington Gates, was first announced in early 2021, with the Federal Government contributing 50 per cent of the funding.

The project has gone through ups and downs. After the City of Sydney scrapped the original design plans in October 2021, a higher quality bi-directional design was proposed later in the year.

Now the finish line is in sight. Sydney WorldPride will take place from 17 February to 5 March 2023, with works on the Oxford Street cycleway commencing shortly afterwards.

The 1.7-kilometre cycleway will run along the northern side of Oxford Street between Taylor Square and Hyde Park, connecting with other bike paths in the CBD to form a safe active transport network.
