Recognising our LGBTIQ+ Community on IDAHOBIT Day 2022

IDAHOBIT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (17 May) is an excellent opportunity to both celebrate the progress made and recognise the injustices still faced by millions of people worldwide.

It is an important day to remember why we fight for safe, affirming and culturally appropriate care for all LGBTIQ+ communities.

In recognition of IDAHOBIT Day, Bicycle Network would like to celebrate the thousands of Australians, including many of our Bicycle Network members, who belong both to the bicycle rider and LGBTIQ+ communities.

There are several LGBTIQ-focused bike user groups (BUGs) and community groups that organise regular rides for their members and opportunities to ride in a safe and welcoming environment.

Some of these groups are listed below:

Melburn Durt is an off-road cycling community for women (Cis & trans), trans men and GNC folk in Melbourne

Bent Kranks is a bike club created for the gay and lesbian community of Melbourne and open to all.

Dicycles on Bicycles is Sydney’s first and only cycling group exclusively for Gay Women / Lesbians.

Sydney Spokes is the home of LGBTI cycling in Sydney. You can join the ride with Sydney Spokes whatever your level of fitness or riding experience.

If you know of any other similar groups not listed above, get in touch!

One of Bicycle Network’s core values is inclusivity, ensuring that all the work we do aims to include bike riders of all backgrounds, and that we represent a bike riding community as diverse as our society.
