Recall: Specialized back-pedals on child’s bike

Specialized has recalled the 2021 Jett 16" single speed children's bicycle because it is not fitted with the required back-pedal rear brake and therefore does not comply with the mandatory Australian safety standard.

It is equipped with front and rear handbrakes, a single-speed drivetrain, chain cover, and 16" wheels, but no rear back-pedal brakes.

If there is no rear back-pedal brake, children may not be able to brake sufficiently using only the front and rear hand brakes, which could result in an accident and injury to the rider.

Consumers should stop using the affected bicycles immediately and return them to their nearest authorised Specialized retailer for a replacement or refund.

The bikes were available in orange, dark purple and grey, with “Jett” written on the downtube.

The serial numbers of the recalled bikes are available here.

The bikes were sold nationally by authorised Specialized retailers and online between 1 May 2021 and 18 Dec 2021. A list of the traders is here.
