As work on the Barwon Heads Road widening project ramps up bike riders have been offered an alternative route to avoid the construction site.
Major Road Projects Victoria have started installing barriers in sections along the Barwon Heads Road, and more barriers will be installed in the coming weeks that will see access to road shoulders reduced and the existing vehicle lanes narrowed.
Between Settlement Road and Reserve Road an alternative detour route for road riders is via Warralily Boulevard, Surfcoast Highway and Francis Street in Belmont.
To support the detour route, MRPV is increasing the shoulder sweeping frequency on Surf Coast Highway to weekly.
MRPV consulted with local bicycle representatives as well as the City of Greater Geelong and the Department of Transport to finalise a cycling detour.
