Interruptions on Koonung Creek Trail
Interruptions on Koonung Creek Trail

Water main construction at Estelle Street, Bulleen, has detoured the Koonung Creek Trail for a short distance.

The detour will be in place for the rest of the year, along with periodic traffic control on a nearby section of trail south of the Eastern Freeway near Carron Street, North Balwyn.

The works involve the relocation of two water mains prior to construction of North East Link using a micro tunnel boring machine (TBM).

These works include:

  • Construction of a laydown area at Estelle Street.
  • Installation of site fencing, traffic barriers and site amenities at Estelle Street.
  • Construction of launch and retrieval shafts involving heavy machinery such as excavators, concrete mixers and tip trucks for soil removal.
  • Boring works underneath the Freeway using a TBM to install the new water pipes.
  • Trenching works for pipe laying near Carron Street and along Estelle Street.
  • Reinstatement works including asphalting and landscaping works following construction.

There will be some nights works in June at the Carron Street site.
