Work starts next week on renewal of the 106 year-old water main under Collins Street from Exhibition to Russel Streets.
Fortunately most of the works will be undertaken at night, minimising dispruption to bike traffic.
Changes to traffic will include some lane closures and reduced on-street parking during the works.
Traffic management will be on site to assist vehicles, pedestrians and bike riders to move safely around the work area.
City West Water contractors will work Sunday to Thursday at night between the hours of 8.00pm and 5.00am.
Steel plates will be installed on the road surface during the day and assurances have been given that they will have a non slip surface and be appropriately fitted.
The activity will be undertaken on the south side of the street.
The project is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks to complete.
Permanent re-instatement of the road will follow at a time after the completion of the works.
