Blaxland Ave bridge closed for a month
Blaxland Ave bridge closed for a month

Riders on the M80 trail and connecting routes will be required to detour through Thomastown over the next month so the bike and pedestrian bridge over the freeway at Blaxland Avenue can be extended and new ramps connected.

Special provision has been been made for riders to use the bus lanes on Mahoneys Road as a detour. The footpath on Edgards Road will be become a shared path for the detour.

These temporary changes include the shared bus and bike lane, lower speed limits, signage and line marking, and head-start treatments. Bicycle symbols will be added to the route this week.

Bus drivers on the route have received instruction on how to interact appropriately with any bikes in the shared bike-bus lane.

The bridge is expected to be operational again by April 9 2021.

The contractors are using the Easter break to enable the concrete on the new ramps and foundations to cure.

The bridge span has to be lifted of the foundations during the construction and curing of the new structures.
