Bridge Road and Yarra interruptions ahead
Bridge Road and Yarra interruptions ahead

Tram works on Bridge Road and at the connecting Hawthorn Bridge over the Yarra will disrupt riders until mid-January.

The first project is underway now and involves the portals at both ends of the bridge.

Any riders or pedestrians using the paths may face delays of up to five minutes during construction, which lasts until January 15.

In early January, a substantial length of Bridge Road will be closed to traffic as Yarra Trams replaces track, poles and overhead wires.

Bridge Road between Church Street and Burwood Road will be closed to through traffic from 11pm Sunday 3 January to 5am Saturday 16 January 2021.

The intersection of Church Street and Bridge Road will be closed to through traffic from 2am Thursday 7 January to 5am Tuesday 12 January 2021.

The work zone will be fenced off for safety, however footpaths will remain open around the work area to allow pedestrian access to businesses and residences.

This will also allow access to those who can walk their bicycles through the area.

There will be kerb to kerb fencing which will limit pedestrian crossings. These fences are required to ensure public safety.

Crossing points will be facilitated where possible and may change depending on the construction activities taking place.

There should be sufficient permeability to allow bike riders to connect t to local streets via a short walk along footpaths.

For early works, the eastbound parking lane between Coppin Street and Fraser Street will be closed from Saturday 2 January 2021.
