m80 ring road detour
Detour starts for M80 Trail

A section of the M80 Trail along the Ring Road at Thomastown will be detoured though quiet local streets from next Monday.

Until mid-2021, the path between the Blaxland Avenue overpass and the Edgars Road Greensborough-bound exit ramp will be closed to the public for work on the next stage of the M80 upgrade.

The well-signed detour will take riders and pedestrians along Maritana Crescent and Alvarado Avenue.

At the eastern end riders can connect back to the trail by taking the path via Edgars Road. At the western end a connection has been made directly through to the trail.

A detour and signage will be in place for the duration of the closure.

Local residents have been advised to expected to see more riders along the local streets.

Construction works will take place along the section of the closed section of trail, including building access tracks and haul roads that are necessary to widen the M80 Freeway and build the new Edgars Road exit ramp and noise walls.

A later stage of the project will upgrade the cycling and pedestrian bridge where the trails crosses from the north to the south side of the M80.
