la trobe street detour
Bike lane blockage ahead for La Trobe St

Work on Metro Tunnel will soon close the busy La Trobe Street bike lane for a month.

The eastbound lane will be inoperable between Elizabeth and Swanston Street from Monday 20 May until Friday 14 June, weather permitting.

The good news is that the detour will be a quick and simple one.

Bikes eastbound on La Trobe will hook turn right at Elizabeth Street and then left at Little Lonsdale Street where they can continue east to Russell Street and then turn left to travel up Russell Street and use a controlled right turn into La Trobe Street.

Riders in the westbound lane of La Trobe Street will not be affected.

The closure is required to enable services under La Trobe Street to be relocated as part of plans to create an underground connection between the new Metro station and the existing Melbourne Central station.

As work progresses on the massive new station development there will likely be further temporary changes to the eastbound bike lane, and we will alert you to those at the time.

Please note that project workers originally advised that the detour would use Queen Street, but information has now been updated to show the correct detour on Elizabeth Street.
