Funding for northern route

A Shorten Labor Government would invest $500,000 to complete the connection of Glenroy and Coburg with the Upfield bike path.

Shadow Transport Minister, Anthony Albanese, said: "Investing in the completion of this cycling network will finish the work of the Victorian State Labor Government by connecting the new dedicated bicycle lane on Cumberland Road in Pascoe Vale with the Upfield Bike Path.

“It will extend the existing bicycle lane along O’Hea Street between Sussex Street and Cumberland Road, allowing cyclists to ride safely between Brunswick, Pascoe Vale, Coburg and Glenroy."

The $500,000 would be sourced from Labor’s $260 million National Bike Paths Strategy.

"It builds on the Victorian State Labor Government’s $2 million investment in the new Cumberland Road bike path in Pascoe Vale and its additional $3.5 million to upgrade and extend the Upfield Bike Path from Box Forest Road in Fawkner to the M80 Ring Road in Glenroy,” Mr Albanese said.

"This election will be a choice between a Shorten Labor Government with a plan to deliver the local infrastructure our communities need, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos."
