Maribyrnong Trail Sewer Works

There will be minor inconvenience for riders along the Maribyrnong Trail in Essendon West for the next four months.

From this week Melbourne Water will start works along Prospect Street and the adjoining parkland installing bypass pumping pipes and setting up areas for storing materials and some machinery.

This is the area where the Maribyrnong Trail travels along the high ridge overlooking the old Maribyrning Defence explosives factory site.

The trail will be detoured on some sections to allow delivery and installation of material on site and local streets will be intermittently closed.

Signage and traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic and assist residents to navigate around the work area.

Temporary diversions will be in place for cyclists and pedestrians around construction areas.

In some places, the sewer bypass pipeline will cross over the shared path with ramps set up to maintain access.

Signs will advise where cyclists need to dismount and walk their bikes over ramps.

Melbourne Water is upgrading 7.2 kilometres of the Maribyrnong River Main (MRM) sewer that runs through Avondale Heights, Essendon West and Aberfeldie.

This work will be undertaken in stages and will be completed by mid-2020.
