30km/h speed zone in Yarra
30km/h speed trial now active

The 30km/h speed limit trial in the Yarra council area is now underway, with the new speed limits being enforced since 21 September.

A go-slow zone has been set up in the streets bound by Alexandra Parade, Hoddle Street, Johnston Street and Nicholson Street.

The trial will last for a year and it is expected to create an environment that is not only safer for bike riders and other road users, but also for better for social and retail.

We would like to remind road users to remember that the new speed limits are in place and would encourage any feedback from riders who travel in the area.

Bicycle Network has long been supportive of lower speed limits, with research showing that the risk of death a serious injury in a crash is greatly reduced when speeds are 30km'h or less.

The introduction of lower speed limits on local streets is part of Bicycle Network's 2018 Victorian State Election campaign.
