Brighton sewer project update

Work is progressing steadily on the Brighton main sewer along Beach Road and the Bay trail and so far any disruption has been manageable for riders along the busy bike corridor.

Over the next two weeks the project will:

  • complete manhole modification works with the last non-slip road plates being removed from St Kilda Street between North Road and Bay Street, Brighton;
  • continue with 24-hour lining works between South Road and Dendy Street from 6pm Sundays to 4.30am Saturdays;
  • maintain 24-hour lane closures and reduced speed limits from 6pm Sunday to 4.30am Saturday;
  • night works to trench across The Esplanade at Park Street –16 and 17 June, three lanes closed – 7pm to 5am establish a bypass pipeline works compound on the foreshore south of the Elwood Boat Ramp carpark. Carpark access will be maintained, and;
  • start Stage 3 bypass pipeline installation on the foreshore between Middle Brighton Baths and North Road.

In late June, the St Kilda Street – North Road intersection will be closed for two nights while a section of the bypass pipeline is trenched across the intersection to the manhole.

For stage 3 the bypass pipeline will run above ground along the foreshore from Middle Brighton Baths to North Road. A custom built ramp will be installed over the pipe between Royal Brighton Yacht Club and Middle Brighton Baths café to maintain pedestrian and cyclist access.
