West: Wellness Trail

This path was constructed as part of the Deer Park Bypass Project. It connects the Western Ring Road in Ardeer South and proceeds north along the Road corridor to the doorstep of Caroline Springs at Ballarat and Christies Road

Deer Park cracks fixed

29 January 2014. The severe cracking of the Wellness Trail at Deer Park has been repaired and the trail has been re-opened.

The cracks appeared during the Melbourne heatwave.

They were so severe in places that VicRoads had to close the trail for safety reasons.

The damage took several days to repair.

All's well (again) as trail reopens

7 October 2013. The path is now open for business. Riders will notice some fencing and earthworks adjacent to the path at the newly created/realigned overpass of the Regional Rail Link in the northern section of the path.

Deer Park Bypass

31 May 2013. We have just received this communication:
"Dear bike user groups,
Deer Park Bypass shared user path: update
The Deer Park – West Werribee Junction project team has commenced construction of the eastern section of the road over rail bridge on Deer Park Bypass. We are building this bridge as part of our project commitment to build no new level crossings.
Works affecting the shared user path include reinforcing the future bridge section of the bypass and relocation of underground utility services. These works are progressing on schedule.
What we are doing – general update
• Construction of earthwork supports along the future bridge section of the bypass is now complete
• Relocation of utility services located under the shared user path is currently underway
• Eight piles are currently being drilled 15 metres deep and filled with concrete to support the future bridge and shared user path

If work needs to be rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances, we will update the Regional Rail Link website (www.regionalraillink.vic.gov.au) as soon as possible
If you would like to know more about this major construction activity please contact our Communications and Stakeholder Relations Team on 0407 800 476 (24 hours / 7 days).
Yours sincerely,
Regional Rail Link: Deer Park – West Werribee Junction project team"

Deer Park Wellness Trail opens

28 July 2009. Mental health and art are a feature of the new 9km walking and cycling path running beside the Deer Park Bypass between Sunshine West and Caroline Springs.

The Trail has six rest stops featuring 30 mosaic artworks created by patients from Melbourne Health’s Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit at Sunshine Hospital.

Riders travelling the Trail can pause at the seating stops and take in the views, the environment and the art.

Each mosaic panels represents an image reflective of the artist’s life experience. Next to each mosaic is the artist's message about how to keep well and happy.

According to the designers, seeing their art on permanent display for the enjoyment of others adds to the positive experience for patients living with mental illness.

The Wellness Trail was developed in a partnership between VicRoads, Leighton Contractors, NorthWestern Mental Health and creative arts therapist Carolyn Noel.
