Shepparton Safer Cycling Corridor project underway

Regional Roads Victoria are seeking feedback on their plans for Safer Cycling Corridor improvements on Graham, Corio and Monash Streets in Shepparton.

Work to deliver a safer and more connected cycling corridor in Shepparton is underway with safety improvements on Corio Street, Graham Street and Monash Street.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said “having such a flat topography, Shepparton is ideally suited to cycling for recreational and commuter purposes.

“A safer cycling network encourages our community to be active and can change attitudes towards alternative transport. The more people that choose cycling instead of driving helps contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions.”

Graham, Corio and Monash streets provide bike rider access to the Shepparton CBD, residential areas, and health and education facilities.

These streets will be made safer for cyclists with improvements including:
  • Speed reduction to 40km/h on Graham, Corio and Monash Streets.
  • Installation of chicanes on Graham Street to encourage motorists to drive slowly and carefully when sharing the road with cyclists. This will require the removal of car parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the chicanes.
  • Kerb outstands and speed cushions at various locations to slow traffic. This will require the removal of some car parking spaces on Corio and Monash Streets.
  • Separated bike lane on Corio Street from Nixon Street to Knight Street.
  • On-road symbols, refreshed line marking and intersections highlighted with green pavement to remind motorists they are sharing the road with cyclists.

Submissions received before 5 November will help plan for installation of the safety improvements.
