50 bike projects to be delivered across WA

50 bike projects including shared paths, intersection upgrades, new bike plans and separated bike lanes are set to be delivered across Western Australia thanks to the state government’s grants program.

Today the WA government announced the recipients of the Perth Bicycle Network and Regional Bicycle Network grants.

The Western Australian Bicycle Network (WABN) grants program is one of the key actions detailed in the Western Australian Bicycle Network Plan 2014-2031 and encourage councils to jointly fund infrastructure for their local communities.

In Perth, 18 bike projects will be delivered across 14 metropolitan councils with more than $3.58 million committed over two years. These projects include 14 shared or separated paths, one protected bike lane and three intersection upgrades.

In regional WA, 32 bike projects will be delivered in 18 council areas with more than $2.9 million committed over two years. These include 29 shared paths, two bike plans and one underpass.

Projects are encouraged to be spread over two financial years to facilitate high-quality planning and design in accordance with the state government’s priorities set out in the WABN plan.

The breakdown of the funded projects and their scope are available online.

Building new paths and upgrading vital connections is critical to the ongoing development to a sustainable, accessible and attractive cycling network across WA.
