Gravel Grit Central Coast gives you four rocky routes to choose from. If you’re legs are feeling fresh on the day, you can always bump up to the next ride distance.
Distance: 46km | Elevation: 868m
The shortest option of the four, The Taster is a perfect introduction into gravel riding, featuring a mix of tarmac (16km) and smooth gravel roads (30km). You’ll contend with a challenging climb early on, roll through pristine forest, and enjoy a thrilling descent to the finish.
The gravel sections of the 46km ride are 2WD appropriate fire road, and rideable on a road bike. If you are riding a road bike, we’d suggest 28mm tyres.
The Low Road
Distance: 55km | Elevation: 1009m
Want to take a ride on the wild side? This is the option for you. You’ll ride most of the 46km route, but take a detour on the back half for some tough love. This extra loop involves around 12km of 4WD-worthy fire road and some fairly gnarly descending.
This loop is not suitable for a road bike – owing to the rocky nature of the descents, we’d suggest a CX bike or gravel bike with at least 32mm tyres, or even a mountain bike.
The High Road
Distance: 59km | Elevation: 1096m
Incorporating most of the 46km route, you’ll head deeper into the wilderness and face plenty of rough 4WD fire road, a fair bit of up, and some surprises along the way.
We’d suggest a CX bike or gravel bike with at least 32mm tyres, or a mountain bike. You might just scrape through on a road bike… but enter at your own risk, pack some extra tubes and be prepared for some walking.
All Roads Lead Home
Distance: 67km | Elevation: 1210m
Don’t be fooled by the fact that this is ‘only 67km’ – it’s a true multi-surface adventure and an awesome day out.
Incorporating most of the main loop plus the High Road and Low Road, you’ll have your fill of gravel plus 20km of rough 4WD fire road to contend with. Plenty of up, plenty of down, some laughs and some tears. Pack your sense of adventure, and have a couple of extra weet-bix for breakfast.
