Women's Community

Getting more women riding

Whether you’re traveling solo, with your sister, partner, friend or you might even be a mother and daughter riding together, the women's community program could be for you – it's open to all female riders doing the 3 day, 5 day and 9 day ride.

Why? Beacuse at Bicycle Network, we believe that 50% of all people who ride bikes should be women. Currently the stats tell us that only one in three bike riders are women.

In 2016, we took a stand to address this imbalance. We launched The Ascent, our first women's-only event that addressed the barriers involved in bike riding events. This saw around 1000 women take on the event and from that moment we knew we wanted to integrate a package for all of our events that encouraged more women to participate.

At no additional cost this package includes:

  • Preparation for the event – the opportunity to take part in monthly training rides (starting in July), skills sessions and 3 x basic mechanics sessions (all Melbourne-based)
  • A free Ascent-themed water bottle
  • Welcome drinks and an introductory presentation on arrival at the campsite
  • Daily morning meeting point so all riders can start each riding day together
  • The opportunity to ride the daily route with our two experienced ride leaders Alison and Soo and other like-minded women (read in more detail about your ride leader Alison and Soo here)
  • Designated time to regroup to share lunch at the rest site
  • Coffee meet-up out on route
  • Evening catch-up drinks and dinner together
  • A designated area at each campsite so we can camp together.
