City bike loop for Albury

Albury will soon have a bike loop around its town centre, as part of a $2.5 million funding package provided by the NSW Government.

The Albury CBD Bike Loop will deliver 5 kilometres of safe, accessible bike lanes along Kiewa, Smollett, Swift, and David Streets in Albury’s CBD.

There will also be a number of community safety improvements in the northern suburb of Lavington, including five raised pedestrian crossings with lighting.

"We are a very active community so funding for improvements to safety and connectivity in both our Albury and Lavington CBD's is critical is we are to provide the services and infrastructure that our community are telling us they need," said Albury Mayor Kylie King.

"We know many locals choose to leave the car at home and explore our CBD's by foot or bike, so this announcement will be really appreciated.

Data from Bicycle Network’s Super Counts dashboard suggests the number of bike riding commuters in the Albury CBD has been reasonably similar for the last decade.

The delivery of the city bike loop is an exciting opportunity for the city to boost its number of active travellers and improve the community health profile.
