Rose Bay Cycleway finally up and running

The Rose Bay Cycleway was officially launched this week, allowing walkers and riders to enjoy coastal cruises as the weather warms up.

The 2.4-kilometre east-west connection starts at William Street in Double Bay and follows New South Head Road parallel to the coast, ending at Norwich Road in Rose Bay.

The cycleway was first proposed in 2017. Woollahra City Council approved the project for construction in December 2019 but works were later halted due to COVID-19 lockdowns.

Construction of the cycleway has endured ongoing debate within council and the community. In November 2021, Rose Bay Residents Association wrote to council conveying “strong resident opposition” of the cycleway due to pedestrian safety issues.

The Rose Bay Cycleway was delivered through a $1.78 million investment by the NSW Government.

Vaucluse MP Gabrielle Upton told the Daily Telegraph that the Rose Bay Cycleway would “not only make this major section of New South Head Rd safer for cyclists, it will also ease congestion on our roads”.
