Free bike lessons for City of Sydney residents

The City of Sydney is offering free bike lessons to residents as part of the Bike Buddies program.

Due to the substantial uptick in bike riding over the past 3 years, the City of Sydney is offering free two-hour bike skill lessons or guided tours to improve residents’ skills and confidence while riding.

"We stared down a hostile press and vested interest to deliver 25.4km of separated cycleways, over 60km of shared paths and 40km of other cycling infrastructure – increasing the number of people riding, including to work in the city centre each day," said Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore.

“Bike Buddies is another way we’re making using active transport easy in Sydney.

"I encourage all locals to get on board with this program if they’re thinking about using a bike to get around our terrific city!"

The two-hour sessions are 1-on-1 with a qualified instructor who will meet residents in a City of Sydney local government area. There are two options for these sessions:

Bike skills:

The bike skills session will teach techniques and skills to increase a rider’s confidence and safety on the road. The instructor will take residents through scenarios including lane positioning, signalling, managing intersections, braking and gear selection.

Guided ride:

Instructors will demonstrate the recommended safest routes in the area to travel by bike such as a route to work, the shops, etc.

This program is open to City of Sydney residents and is available to riders of all levels. Find out more here.
