Coolstore Rd works create vital Croydon link

A new rail bridge and railway station announced for Croydon will deliver a vital connection for the future bike route from Ringwood to Mooroolbark.

The state government has previously mapped out a strategic cycling corridor all the way from Ringwood to Lilydale, but getting it through Croydon was a challenge.

Now that an elevated rail crossing has been selected for the Coolstore Road level crossing removal, the problem of weaving the trail through the streets around the railway station precinct appears largely resolved.

And the coast is clear for connections to be made to other strategic bike corridors to the north and south.

Preliminary plans for the project show a new bike-only section of trail to the west of the station, with a new shared path to the east.

The new design also includes a major bus interchange with direct passenger access to the station.

Level Crossing Projects says the design offers the best opportunity to connect Croydon’s busy shopping precinct, which is currently divided by the rail line.

Early works start in early 2023, with a new Croydon transport hub expected to open in 2025.

The government is inviting feedback into the design of the project.

You can ask questions, fill in a survey, and attend online information sessions during August.
