The long and the short of our social rides

There’s an even spread of distances in our social rides this fortnight, with a new longer ride on offer out of Hobart to Brighton and even longer ride from Longford. So if you want to ride 10 km or 100 km, take your pick from northern and southern options. 

Tunnels and Bridges – Saturday 26 March

Tunnels and Bridges on Saturday 26 March is an easy 25 km exploration of the paths and shortcuts off the Intercity Cycleway between the city and Rosetta.

 Join ride leader Greg at 9.15 am at the Cenotaph car park to head down the Intercity Cycleway before returning via paths and quiet roads through Montrose, Derwent Park and New Town.

Trails around Launceston – Thursday 31 March

Join ride leader for Di M. for the last of the easy 10–15 km ride around Launceston’s trails for the summer on Thursday 31 March.

Meet 5.45 pm at Park Street in Royal Park.

Brighton Up – Saturday 2 April

Brighton Up on Saturday 2 April is a new social ride for us, offering a longer 70 km option for everyone wanting to increase their stamina and taking a day to get some kilometres under their belts.

Meet ride leader Greg at the Cenotaph carpark at 9.15 am. The group will head down the Intercity Cycleway out to Brighton where they’ll loop around and return. There will be a lunch stop along the way for a much needed rest and chance to chat to other riders.

Longford 100km – Sunday 3 April

Ride leader Mick is leading the 100 km ride from Longford through Bishopsbourne, Carrick, Bracknell and finish along Powranna Rd on Sunday 3 April.

There will be a lunch stop at Cressy. Meet at 9.15 am at the park in Lyttleton Street in Longford.

Exeter to Bridgenorth – Wednesday 6 April

The regular Wednesday TBUG ride is taking a 32 km route between Exeter and Bridgenorth on 6 April.

Meet ride leader Mick at 9.15 am at the Information Centre at 81 Main Road, Exeter.

Ebike Coffee Cruise – City to Nature – Thursday 7 April

Join our ebike champion Di on Thursday 7 April for an easy 9km roll from the city to the brewery and back – a great ride for people wanting to get back into riding and learn easier routes through the city.

Meet at 9.15 am outside Brooke Street Pier (great if you want to come over on the 9am ferry) to ride through town to the Rivulet Path and end with a coffee at Hamlet or in the city.

Mt Rumney Rumble – Saturday 9 April

For a spectacular view of Hobart that will make the sore legs worth it, join the 28.5 km Mt Rumney Rumble ride on Saturday 9 April.

Meet ride leader David A. at the Cenotaph car park at 9.15 am or outside the Rosny Farm Arts Centre at 10 am.

The ride suits all bikes and experience levels and will mostly be on road and there’ll be stop at Tunnel Hill along the way and coffee at the end of the ride.

Bicycle Network Tasmania accredits Social Ride Leaders and requires anyone interested in leading rides to be accredited. If you would like to be one of our Ride Leaders, please email our Rides Coordinator with your contact details and what sort of riding you are interested in and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled.

COVID-19 guidelines

Our social rides leaders are following a set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:

  • Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
  • Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day. 
  • Please have a mask handy if you intend to finish with coffee or snack with other riders.

People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose or are in mandated isolation or quarantine.
