Swan Street closed in February

Swan Street in Richmond will be closed for a week in February for the replacement of tram track.

Sections of the street will be closed 24/7 to all traffic including bikes from 8pm, Friday 11 February to 5am, Saturday 19 February 2022.

During this time there will be road closures on Swan Street between Dando and Burnley streets.

The Wallen Road Bridge and the Burnley Street intersection will be closed in stages during this time with the Burnley Street intersection closed from 5am, Monday 14 February to 5am, Saturday 19 February 2022.

The intersection of Church and Swan streets will remain open for traffic on Church Street.

There will also be earlier lane closures for delivery and welding of rail from 2-11 February between Stawell Street and Madden Grove. There will be full street closures overnight.

There are no specific bike detours. Riders will be able to utilise local streets to filter around the closures. Although the Wallen Street Bridge closure over the weekend 11-14 February will require more planning.

Yarra Trams works with Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to carry out ongoing maintenance and renewal works across the network to ensure a safe and reliable tram network for future generations.

Sections of track on Swan Street between Dando Street and Burnley Street (including the intersection) and Wallen Road bridge have been identified for renewal works to ensure that this portion of the tram network is safe by reducing risk of derailments.

Businesses located around the works area will remain open. Pedestrian access to these businesses will remain open at all times.

Once the major works are complete, Yarra Trams will undertake close out works. This work may include pole installation and removal, permanent line-markings, and any remedial work.
