Disruption of Bourke St bike route

There will be major disruption to the bike route at the top end of Bourke Street, starting on Sunday 25 July.

Two water mains—one dating from 1896—are being replaced by Greater Western Water (formerly City West Water.)

This will result in a closure of the west-bound traffic lane on the south side of the street between Windsor Place and Exhibition Street—during working hours.

The good news is that working hours will be at night between 7:00pm and 5:00am, so the route will be open during the day.

Overnight, west-bound bikes will be detoured via Little Collins Street.

Work will be underway between Sunday and Thursday each week.

The project will take about 14 weeks to complete.

The work also includes the replacement of a main in McIlwraith Place between Bourke and Little Collins Streets.

Traffic management will be on site to assist vehicles, pedestrians and bike riders to move safely around the work area.
