Wollongong bike city
I love a bike city because...

Wollongong City Council is asking young people to share what they love about bike riding in Wollongong as part of the I love Wollongong because... campaign.

They're inviting people between the age of 12 and 24 to submit an image that captures what they love about bike riding in their community.

The 20 best submissions will be displayed on panels on the exterior walls of Wollongong Youth Centre building as part of a public exhibition, launching on Thursday 1 July 2021.

To take part you will need to submit a digital file that meets the following minimum requirements:

  • portrait (or tall) orientation
  • 1000 pixels wide x 3000 pixels high
  • JPEG format
  • complete a copy of the terms and conditions

Young people can submit in person at the Youth Centre or by emailing youthservices@wollongong.nsw.gov.au. Submissions close 5pm Sunday 16 May 2021.

You can learn more on the council website.

This comes after Wollongong received the international recognition of a UCI Bike City Label in February this year and as the 'Gong prepares to host the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in September 2022.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said: "Council has made no secret that we have a strong focus on improving access to cycling for people of all levels of ability. Although we know not everyone rides a bike, we want to empower everyone to be able to use more active forms of transport.

“Over the past few months, we’ve been doing a lot of work within the Wollongong CBD and some of our other suburbs to enhance the way we might cycle through our communities."
