Another Reefton road closure

There will be another closure of Woods Point Road at Reefton this week.

From Tuesday 23 March to Friday 26 March the road will be closed during work hours while heavy machinery is used on-site.

Woods Point Road will be closed in Reefton between Upper Yarra Dam Road and Marysville-Woods Point Road.

A signed detour will be in place via Maroondah Highway (The Black Spur) and Marysville-Woods Point Road, or Acheron Way and Marysville-Woods Point Road.

Access will be maintained for local residents to all properties - north of Upper Yarra Dam Road. No traffic including emergency services will have access through the worksite.

The road will re-open to one traffic lane from Friday 26 March at 6pm. Crews will not be working on the weekend.

On the remaining days of work (Monday 29 March to Wednesday 31 March), crews will generally be working between 7am and 6pm. These works will be completed with one traffic lane remaining open to the public.

Works are expected to be completed by Wednesday 31 March, if the weather permits.

The Woods Point Road at Reefton was damaged in a landslip last year.

Four locations along Acheron Way and Donna Buang Road in Warburton and East Warburton, and Woods Point Road in Reefton were impacted by landslips in 2020, following significant rainfall and severe weather conditions in the area.

The three other landslip sites nearby—along Acheron Way and Donna Buang Road in Warburton, and East Warburton (LOC1 – LOC3 on the map) have been assessed by geotechnical experts and detailed designs are currently underway for the repair of these roads.

Works on those landslips will start once the designs are completed later this year.

Repair works include:
  • Excavation and removal of the damaged pavement
  • Building up and stabilising the road layers
  • Laying layers of asphalt
  • Drainage improvements
