m80 bridge colour
Help choose a colour for this bridge

Bike riders can be picky about the colour of their bikes, but do they have a care about the colour of the bridges they ride over?

The bike brands go to huge trouble to get the paint just right because they know how important it is.

Now the bridge builders are into the act.

Melbourne’s riders are being offered a say on the paint job for the cable towers on the Blaxland Avenue Overpass on the Western Ring Road.

As part of the M80 Upgrade between Sydney Road and Edgars Road, the overpass is being extended to provide space for new lanes on the freeway underneath.

The bridge reconstruction involves new ramps, replacing the cables and painting the support towers a brand-new colour to enhance the structure and provide a visual cue for motorists travelling on the freeway.

You are being asked to help choose from one of three vibrant colours to paint the support towers of the bridge: Banksia, Bright Lime and Kikuyu.

The community can vote for their preferred colour by visiting engage.vic.gov.au or by texting ‘BANKSIA’, ‘BRIGHT LIME’ or ‘KIKUYU’ to 0499 073 073.

The poll will close at 11:59pm, Sunday 21 February 2021.

The preferred colour will be announced in March and the support towers will be painted soon after.

Note: The overpass will be closed a number of times between Sunday 21 February to Tuesday 23 February between 8pm and 5am for cable tightening. A detour will be in place.
