Tragic crash at Peaks Challenge training ride in Otways

A person was tragically killed and another injured while riding in a Peaks Challenge Falls Creek training ride on the Great Ocean Road near Wongarra yesterday.

The male who died, aged in his 50s, was part of a group riding a loop that started in Lorne and travelled through the Otway Ranges and along the Great Ocean Road. Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. The injured person was discharged from hospital on Sunday night.

Any time we lose someone while they are riding a bike is a tragedy. When it happens during a training ride for one of our events the grief is hard to describe.

By all accounts, the people they were riding with did an incredible job of caring for the riders and looking after each other.

Bicycle Network’s thoughts and sympathy are with the riders’ loved ones, everyone involved and the whole bike riding community. We are offering our support to everyone, this includes family members, friends, volunteer leaders, participants on the training ride and all members of the Bicycle Network family.

More than ever, this is a time for all bike riders to provide each other with support.
