A short section of path that riders use to connect to Bridge Road via Yarra Boulevard from the Main Yarra Trail will be closed from time to time from next week until Christmas.
A detour will be available through Richmond Park on the north side of Bridge Road.
The Main Yarra Trail will not be closed, although traffic management may be in place.
The Department of Transport is undertaking maintenance work on the historic Hawthorn Bridge over the Yarra and will be installing temporary scaffolding under the western third of the Hawthorn Bridge to examine and clean the existing structural beams.
It is good that the underneath of Bridge is being maintained, but what about the road surface?
Has anyone from the DoT tried riding a bike across the Hawthorn Bridge lately?
Let’s hope that when they finished underneath some attention is paid to the hazardous surface that bikes have to ride over.
