The bike link on Todd Road, Port Melbourne, will be closed for all of next week.
The off road path, where Todd Road goes under the Westgate Freeway, is to be re-instated following electricity works under the bridge.
The problem is that there are no other access points under the Freeway in the vicinity to enable a detour to be set-up.
The on-road experience for riders is hideous at this location, a major port entrance crammed with snarling truck traffic.
The closure effectively means that there is no safe way for riders to safely get from the Bay Trail to the Main Yarra Trail through the Westgate Park area.
Riders will remember that the Fishermans Bend Integrated Transport Plan was released with great fanfare exactly three years ago.
Since then? Crickets.
