Bike route goes to water

The Albert Street bike route in East Melbourne will be diverted for up to two weeks for emergency water works.

The westbound road at the corner of Albert Street and Clarendon Streets is subsiding, possibly due to leaks in the water main installed last year.

The road will be dug up in the cause of the subsidence investigated, and potentially repaired.

Bikes heading west will be detoured around the works using a similar short detour as the one used last year when the water main was installed.

Bike riders will need to comply with local laws and walk their bikes if detouring through the park.

Traffic coming up Clarendon Street will not be able to turn left, however bikes can take the detour.

The works will begin on Monday and continue until completed during both day and night.

Traffic management will be in place throughout works period including road closure and detour signage.

There will be temporary fencing around the work zone.
