Darebin Creek Trail upgrade

The popular Darebin Trail is about to be closed and detoured as works on significant upgrades to the route through Bellfield get underway soon.

The works will continue to the middle of the year.

The project will widen the track to 3 metres with an improved concrete surface, while feeder paths will be made 2.5 metres wide.

Importantly the trail alignment will be altered in a number of locations to improve sight-lines, grades and clearances.

These realignments will also reduce the number of tree removals required.

New tree planting and revegetation will also be done to offset any losses.

New retaining walls and fencing will also be constructed along sections of the trail.

Stage A of the project will have closures from mid-January 2020 to mid-February.

Stage B will have closures from mid-February to mid-June.

While the trail sections are closed for upgrade, an extensive array of detour and trail closed signage will help guide you safely around the project area.

The City of Banyule has outlined the detours for bikes and walkers on the below Google Map. You can use checkboxes to show or hide detours for each stage of the project.
