Cycle off Christmas kilos, welcome new year

Our popular Pipeline ride is back for a post-Christmas, pre-new year spin, helping you get back into riding fitness after any festive indulgences and ready to face a new decade on Sunday 29 December.

Led by rider leader Matt Drake, this is a gentle uphill ride on the unsealed Pipeline path, all off-road, with a steady downhill return.

It’s a great ride for anyone wanting to test their endurance, their new bike or who just want to get out in gorgeous surroundings for a couple of hours of two-wheeled bliss.

The ride suits hybrid and mountain bikes and will be easy going for most riders as gradients are gentle. The ride will be about 2.5 hours return, with our destination the Tin Cabin but we can also go further if the group is keen.

Please bring enough water and snacks to keep your energy levels up for the 2.5 hour ride – you can always grab a bite to eat for lunch at the Ferntree Tavern at the end of the ride.

Depending on the weather, enough warm layers and waterproofs are essential. Likewise, if it’s a hot one make sure you have enough water to keep you going.

Meet at the Ferntree Tavern car park at 9.45 am, 15 minutes before the ride start time of 10 am. Please RSVP online in case the ride needs to be cancelled, but we tend to ride in any weather.

Upcoming rides & events

Social rides are featured in each edition of In the Loop, but if you want more notice visit our social rides calendar, which is regularly updated.

The strength of our social rides program depends on members volunteering to lead rides. Bicycle Network Tasmania accredits Social Ride Leaders, and requires anyone interested in leading rides to be accredited.

If you would like to be one of our Ride Leaders, please volunteer here and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled. We held our last training sessopm at the beginning of December and will hold the next one when enough people are interested.
