Active detours and path closures in Victoria

Learn about active detours, path/lane closures and any changes to traffic conditions that may impact people who ride bikes.

Lennox Street closure

The bike lane on Lennox Street between Elizabeth and Butler streets in Richmond will be closed in both directions during the day from Monday 22 July until maybe Friday 26 July.

It is hoped that work will be completed quickly and the bike lane reopened before 26 July.

The closure will be active between 7:00am and 5:00pm. Detours will be setup using Victoria, Shelley and Elizabeth streets.

Work is being done to upgrade the Richmond gas main.

Webb Bridge closure

Webb Bridge, the pedestrian and bike bridge over the Yarra in Docklands, will be closed for re-surfacing next week.

The bridge will be closed for 24 hours each day from Tuesday 23 July until Wednesday 31 July.

Bike riders will be detoured via the Seafarers Bridge several hundred metres to the East.

Pedestrians will be able to use the neighbouring Charles Grime Bridge.

Albert St route disruption

Riders travelling into the city via Albert Road in East Melbourne will be disrupted for the next few days.

Melbourne Water’s big water main project has re-started and will close west-bound lanes, including the bike lane, from Clarendon to Eades Street, for two weeks.

The only legal detour for riders is to walk your bike a couple of hundred metres through the Fitzroy Gardens.

Swanston Street bike lane closure 12 – 19 2019

Riders heading out of the city on Swanston Street should be alert to construction works from Thursday 12 July until 19 July.

Between Victoria and Queensberry Streets there will be gantry construction underway at a building site.

Peak traffic periods will not be impacted on week days, with works underway from 9:30am – 4:00pm.

Work on Saturday 13 July will be done between 8:00am and 3:00pm.

La Trobe Street detour

The Melbourne Metro Tunnel project continues to interrupt the La Trobe Street bike route, although traffic condition will change from Saturday.

The current bike detour along Little Lonsdale Street will remain in place through July, although the east-bound traffic lane between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets will be open during the day only.

The bike lane is closed due to service relocations that involve excavation of service trenches, installation of services, back filling, and reinstating the road.

The condition of the road is likely to be messy and riders would be wise to stick to the detour.

Traffic management will be in place to safely guide pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists around the work areas.
