Sometimes it is the small gestures that make the difference, and so it is with some finessing the City of Melbourne has done with the city’s strong-spine small street—Little Collins.
New green delineation treatment has been added to the major intersections.
The configuration adds a clear approach lane leading to a full width bike box at the intersections.
This enables bikes to get to the front of the queue when the street is congested, and then enables them to have a head-start at the signals change.
Better safety, quicker trips and more convenience—exactly what the City’s new transport strategy is wishing for.
As you can see from the photo below, the lights were not in action at the time, but we are assured they will be anytime real soon now.
The change will make bike riders will feel appreciated, and they will pay it forward to the City.
