Work starts on new trail crossing

A dicey crossing on the Scotchmans Creek Trail is getting a major upgrade to improve safety.

Work has started on installing a signalised crossing at Atkinson Street in Chadstone — a busy straight road where traffic is always tempted to speed.

The new signals at the pedestrian and bike crossing will initially be user operated, however detector loops are being installed so that in the future approaching bikes will find the lights turning green for them.

The upgrade is part of improvements being done for the strategic cycling corridor project to improve bike connecting Monash University and the surrounding employment cluster, including the medical precinct.

This crossing works will most likely run until end of April. Works will be from 9am-3pm Mon-Fri.

There will be minor detours in place for pedestrians and bike riders along Atkinson St and the Scotchmans Creek Trail during these times.
