Women on Wheels heads east

Our premier Bike Week ride, Women on Wheels, is heading to Sorell this year for an easy trip around the scenic Orielton Lagoon on Sunday 3 March.

Riders will meet at St Georges Square in Sorell at 10 am ready for a 10.30 am start.

Our friends at Ken Self Cycles will be there to offer a free pre-ride bike check, to help make sure cobwebs, squeaks and flat tyres are sorted before we head out. Suzy Riley from Ken Self will lead the ride.

There will be water (and toilets) available in the square. Don't forget to bring your water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.

From the square we’ll head out along the Waterway Trail and take separated paths and some quiet roads to head around the lagoon.

Most of the 12 km route is on sealed paths and roads, with some sections of fine compacted gravel. It’s fairly flat with one gentle climb.

You can check out the Orielton Lagoon Loop ride on our RidewithGPS Ambassador Routes webpage. Each ride includes pictures along the way as well as a map showing elevation levels.

At the end of the ride there wil be a free light lunch. The ride costs $10 for Bicycle Network members and $15 for non-members.

There will be a free warm-up ride for Women on Wheels on Saturday 23 February, meeting just before 10 am at the Cenotaph car park on McVilly Drive to head out along the Intercity Cycleway and back by about 12 pm.

This will be the 19th Women on Wheels ride (let us know if you have ideas for where we should run our 20th!) which was designed to get novice female bike riders out in a group on roads and trails to build their confidence.

Please note that this ride was originally planned to be held in Ranelagh but when the route was tested by a beginner rider on a weekend it was deemed too difficult.
