Shock-collar! Specialized recall

Specialized has recalled a wide range of models because of problems with the steerer tube collar.

Certain Roubaix, Ruby, Diverge and Sirrus bicycles are effected by the fault, which can cause a sudden loss of steering control, a crash and injury.

About 4500 bikes are involved in the recall.

The steerer tube collar can be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking, causing the steering to fail.

These bikes are fitted with Specialized’s Future Shock suspension, a recent innovation which places a spring just below the stem at the top of the steering tube to smooth the ride.

The company is recalling the steerer tube collars on these bicycles and is replacing them with a new, improved collar which, together with an adjustment to the torque setting, will significantly improve the collar’s resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Owners are asked to stop riding their bikes immediately and return them to their nearest authorised Specialized retailer for a replacement steerer tube collar, free of charge.
