Maribyrnong Trail detour
Maribyrnong Trail detour in Essendon West

There will be minor detours on the Maribyrnong Trail in Essendon West over the next few weeks.

The Maribyrnong River Main Sewer upgrade team will be undertaking preliminary investigations in Prospect Street where the trail runs along the ridge top overlooking the old Defence site, near Steele Creek Reserve.

A small section of the shared trail will need to be closed off while works are underway.

Detour arrangements, signs and traffic controllers will be in place to ensure bike riders and pedestrians are able to safely navigate around our work areas.

Melbourne Water is upgrading 7.2 kilometres of the Maribyrnong River Main (MRM) sewer that runs through Avondale Heights, Essendon West and Aberfeldie.

The work team will take advantage of low flows to use TV cameras to inspect the condition of the sewers and manholes along the Prospect Street section.

Should there be heavy rain during the period, the work may be extended.
