Rail history & inner city

Our social rides in the next few weeks are designed to help new e-bike riders navigate inner city Hobart and explore Hobart’s rail heritage.

On Wednesday 5 December our e-bike coffee club is going to ride a 10km loop through the city up to North Hobart, Lenah Valley, West Hobart and back to Collins Street.

The ride is designed to help new e-bike riders find the best routes into and around town and try out some of the new short painted lanes in West Hobart and Lenah Valley to see what sort of difference they make.

This is a hilly route so make sure you battery is fully charged and your brakes are in good working order.

We’ll be meeting outside the Bicycle Network office at 210 Collins Street, Hobart at 9.45am ready to head off at 10am, back at about 12pm.

Please RSVP so we can contact you if we need to cancel due to weather.

Rail back in time

On Sunday 2 December rail buffs and people interested in Hobart’s transport history can join our suburban railway history ride.

The starting point is the Hobart Railway Roundabout at 10.20am ready to head off at 10.30am.

The ride will retrace the train trip from Hobart station to the Cadburys factory in Claremont. We’ll stop at the stations along the way to look at pictures of the old stations and hear about their use.

Finishing up at Banjos in Claremont for a coffee, participants can also choose whether they want to ride a stream train at the transport museum in Glenorchy.

This is a 40km round-trip ride so make sure you are prepared, we'll be returning at about 12.30pm.

Please RSVP so we can contact you if we need to cancel due to weather.

These rides are being offered as part of Bicycle Network Tasmania’s social rides program. Social rides are free and organised by volunteers to help riders meet new people, learn new skills and gain confidence on their bikes.
