Chandler Highway Bridge Community Open Day

With significant progress being made on the new Chandler Highway Bridge, the Major Road Projects Authority is hosting a community event on the bridge this Saturday.

To celebrate the upcoming opening of the first two lanes, Major Road Projects will host a community open day to thank the community for their patience during construction.

The community open day will run from 11am – 2pm and will be the only time that the public will have an opportunity to congregate on the bridge deck.

Attendees will get an exclusive sneak peek at the new bridge, an opportunity to speak to project engineers and enjoy a free coffee and barbeque, plus fun activities for kids.

See the Chandler Highway Community Event flyer here.

Following the event on Saturday, there will be a full night closure on Sunday 28 October in preparation for the opening of the new lanes, with Chandler Highway closed between Eastern Freeway off-ramp (outbound) and Heidelberg Road between 7pm Sunday and 6am Monday.

Access to the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre will be maintained.

Detours will be in place, with riders and drivers advised to follow the signs or visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au for alternative routes.

This is an important milestone for the $110M construction project which promises to fix some key connections on Melbourne’s bike routes, and minimize the danger and congestion associated with one of cities worst squeeze points.
