Teddy bears, road safety and beach views

Bicycle Network has a busy October coming up with involvement in the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, West Hobart Road Safety Awareness lunch and a social ride in Port Sorell.

National Childrens Week

Playgroup Tasmania is organising a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens to mark Children’s Week and we’ll be there with bells on.

We’ve organised two balance bikes to be offerred as prizes in the raffle children will enter when they go through the gate.

Donated by Cyclingo the balance bikes are the perfect introduction for toddlers to get the hang of how a bicycle works without the complication of pedals. Once the novice riders become more confident, pedals can be attached.

We’ll be on hand to talk to parents about how they can help their children start riding and supporting older children to ride independently to school, sport and other locations.

The picnic is a free event, between 10 am and 12 pm on Wednesday 24 October, just bring a blanket and picnic basket.

West Hobart Road Safety

As part of the City of Hobart’s improvements for pedestrians along Hill Street, students from Lansdowne Primary School will be designing and painting a road safety mural.

Bicycle Network is running a bicycle education workshop with grades 3, 5 and 6 at the primary school in early November to help inform the mural’s design.

The community is also holding a road safety party on Saturday 20 October between 11 am and 1 pm at Caldew (Train) Park on the corner of Hill and Warwick streets, where people can feed ideas into the mural design and enjoy a BBQ lunch.

Port Sorell roll

Take advantage of the sunnier days with a ride through the pictueresque Port Sorell area on Sunday 28 October.

Meet at the car park off Dumbleton Street at Hawley Beach before 11am, and we’ll return there about 3 pm.

More details of the route and distances and how to RSVP will be put on the website.

These rides are being offered as part of Bicycle Network Tasmania’s social rides program. Social rides are free and organised by volunteers to help other people meet new people, learn new skills and gain confidence on their bikes.
