Bicycle volunteers kick off week with what they love

Bicycle Network Tasmania will celebrate its volunteers with a social ride and thank you lunch tomorrow at the Waterside Pavilion in Hobart.

“Volunteers are at the centre of everything that we do at Bicycle Network – from our events and advocacy to spreading the good word about riding a bike,” Public Affairs Adviser Alison Hetherington said.

“Our volunteers provide secure valet bike parking at big Hobart events like the football, Taste of Tasmania and MONA festivals.

“They run events like our recent Electric Bike Expo, which gave many people their first ride on an electric bicycle, and stalls at university and community festivals.

“Volunteers can get involved in our interstate rides as a rider or helping out on the ground, such as the Great Victorian Bike Ride and Peaks Challenge.

“And they also plan and lead free social rides in Tasmania that help people get back on their bikes and stay on their bikes.

“Most people who ride a bicycle love it and are keen to help others get a taste for what’s a fun, healthy and cheap recreational and transport option.

“Volunteer Week is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to all our hard workers and put a call out for more volunteers,” Ms Hetherington said.
