Hundreds gather to ride for Arzu

Hundreds of people joined together to ride in memory of Melbourne woman Arzu Baglar who was killed while riding her bike in Yarraville last week.

Speaking to The Age at the memorial ride, Bicycle Network CEO, Craig Richards, said people felt despair and great anger at the preventable death of a fellow rider.

"This is something that could be stopped and we feel that we could do more to make sure it doesn't happen again."

The wife and mother of two was hit by a truck turning left into Somerville Road after travelling south down Whitehall Street in Yarraville on the evening of Friday 10 March.

According to reports police said it appeared she was traveling through the intersection with a green light when a truck turning left hit her.

The incident prompted calls for improved bike riding infrastructure, with Greens Senator Janet Rice urging the government to invest.
