More than just a challenge
Not only is it ranked as one of the world's top ten Gran Fondos, the SCODY 3 Peaks Challenge has now been recognised for its contribution to Victorian tourism.
On Monday 11 November, the SCODY 3 Peaks Challenge 2013 event was awarded the title of state finalist in the ‘Adventure Tourism’ category at the 29th RACV Victorian Tourism Awards.
This prestigious award recognises the contribution that the SCODY 3 Peaks Challenge makes to the Victorian High Country tourism industry during its off-peak season. The event attracts a large number of cyclists from across Australia and overseas to experience the Victorian Alps in a uniquely challenging way.
In particular, the 2013 event was recognised for bringing people back to Victoria's High Country after last year's devastating bush fires.
With a record breaking number of cyclists registered to conquer the peaks in 2014, we're already looking forward to our biggest SCODY 3 Peaks Challenge yet.
3 Peaks Pro Team set for 2014
We have named our 3 Peaks Pro Team for 2014. The team consists of five A-Grade cyclists who know what it takes to conquer the peaks and includes the debut of an interstate team member. Meet the team.
Alex Malone makes his 3 Peaks Pro Team debut
Ever since Alex's childhood years cycling has always provided a means for him to explore places and areas you wouldn't otherwise travel by foot or motor vehicle. A switch in focus from off-road to road cycling in Alex's early twenties was as much about gaining more time on the bike as it was the competition.
The competitive side has allowed Alex to travel to countries he wouldn't otherwise look to for a holiday and provided experiences that have moulded the person he is today. Cycling has always played a huge part in his life, having worked in the industry throughout school, university and into the current day. Growing up Alex never thought it would consume so much of his time but to be honest he wouldn't have it any other way.
Alex currently races in the NRS alongside fellow 3 Peaks Pro Team member, Peter English for Satalyst Giant and can also be seen tearing it up at a local club level in Sydney.
